Ariel Seylena-Butterfly Hewlin

In 2021, Ariel obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in New Media & Design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her work and passion for art derive from her cultural upbringing (as a Haliwa-Saponi citizen) and the knowledge that she has received from her family, community, and experiences participating in various Native American events and organizations. Ariel's work focuses on digital and print design that communicates clearly, effectively, and as she'd like to say, "uniquely", with various audiences. She also does work that brings awareness to her identity as an Indigenous woman.
Ariel enjoys the broad spectrum of challenges, results, and opportunities for communication that graphic design creates. She values the motivation graphic design gives her to expand her artistic skills, the collaborative aspect of working in the design field, and the informative aspect of graphic design. Is the information/design fun, serious, uncomfortable, helpful, or accessible? Honest? When people ask Ariel what graphic design is, she finds it better to explain not only with words, but with examples as well.
