Studio 12

Studio 12 was a name that my Fall '21 ART 448 Variable Topics in New Media/Design classmates and I chose to represent us and this project that focused on making the UNCG Art Student Lounge more accessible, inviting, communal, among other things. Furthermore, it was a real-world application project that allowed us to collaborate and find ways to use social media in order to engage with UNCG Art students and gather their input in the process of renovating the space.

MISSION

We aim to transform the student lounge into a safe space for you to connect, be heard, belong, and rest.

Professor Supervising: Lee Walton

During the majority of this project, I had trouble creating social media content for the project. When this opportunity was presented to the class, I became overly excited. I made sure I contributed to the class discussions about the why and the how, and I also helped look for furniture. I did my best to contribute where I could because there were so many ideas and so many strengths that we all possessed. I love organizing, taking things out, and bringing things in. Hence, I volunteered to move furniture and wear the suit (LOL). I also discussed with my peers and Lee about the moving furniture, areas where items could be placed, and the need for a microwave that everyone can use—I love to eat, and I know others that do, too. I also contributed to our conversation with Caitlyn Schrader by offering another perspective as a commuter student. I believe that’s one of the main reasons I was so excited to participate in this project because I knew there were and always will be other commuter Art students who would love a place to rest/eat/work before taking that drive again.

I also assisted a classmate, Giana, on a video for our Instagram page, @studio_12_uncg. I helped her search for an appropriate, unlicensed instrumental song. I wanted to help with editing since I have experience with that, but she insisted that she do that part solo.

Check out my spray painting skills! I also collaborated with my classmate, Giana, on this beauty!

I created a board to remind UNCG Art Students about Studio 12 and how we improved the lounge to be the space it was always meant to be! The QR code takes visitors to Instagram to view how we used social media to show our process and engage with the UNCG Art community.

To top Studio 12 off, the class hosted a pizza social for art students during ART 448's final! I created this GIF to promote the event:
